About the Opportunity

We are looking to recruit a Senior/ Principal Power System Engineer to our ‘Future Power Systems’ team. You will effectively support our business by helping to grow activities in transmission and distribution. This will include modelling and performing various power system studies for our major energy clients worldwide. Projects which typically in all the areas of Power sector right from generation (conventional & non-conventional), transmission, distribution and industrial systems.

We have diverse design teams based at offices in London, Birmingham, Cardiff, and Bristol; however, we require the flexibility to travel across all our offices and client locations. Work from home arrangements are available although a regular weekly presence in your home office would be required.

The Role

The role of ‘Senior/ Principal Power System Engineer’ in our ‘Future Power Systems’ team is one of the components of a growth strategy to position Jacobs to meet the requirements of energy transition activities within the Europe and Middle East (EMEA) region.

As part of our team, you’ll be providing a range of services throughout the Power System study projects. This includes Power System modelling, feasibility studies, Grid Code compliance studies, Grid Interconnection/impact studies, Insulation Coordination Studies, technical reports, technical bid preparation, attend the customer meetings etc.

As this is a Senior/Principal role, you will also be required to lead the technical discipline at the senior level, delivering innovative solutions that provide superior value to our clients.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading all the study activities (i.e. support in the technical bid, modelling, performing the simulations & results analysis, reports, client meetings & presentation, technical discussions etc.)

  • Work closely with the Team members across the globe in multiple power system studies for transmission, distribution, renewables, and industrial systems.

  • Power system studies including, but not limited to short circuit calculations, load flow, protection coordination, harmonic analyses, electromagnetic transients, dynamic studies etc.

  • Work with different customers TSO’s, DNO’s and renewable developers across the globe

  • Work on several low carbon initiatives like EV, BESS, renewables etc. solutions towards the net zero.

  • Contributing to the delivery of consultancy projects, delivering on time and to budget

  • Ensuring the design meets all the client’s scoping requirements and compliance with their technical specifications

  • Acting as main point of contact with the client during the various project phases.

  • Mentoring and training of our young engineers.

  • Actively support the sales & management in client engagement and business development opportunities in pursuit of future work for the business

  • Liaise directly with our clients, contractors, operators, and suppliers as necessary.

Here’s what you’ll need :

  • Minimum of a Degree or equivalent in electrical engineering or higher, Masters or PhD in relevant field.

  • Membership of a recognised professional institution /organisation preferably at a Chartered level

  • Proficient in power system modelling and analysis using DIgSILENT, PSS/E, ETAP and PSCAD software’s

  • Previous work experience in Power systems, utility and renewable projects

  • Coding skills for example in MATLAB/ Python is preferable

  • UK Driving license
