The IT-PTS Technical Managers role is to provide enterprise wide technical leadership to the IT Project Technology Services (PTS) team members in regards to their development, workload and the for the services they provide to the business. The IT-PTS Technical Manager focusses primarily on the technology, provides thought leadership and strategic support to the business.

They manage the technical IT-PTS technical resources ensuring their team are experienced, competent and capable of supporting the engineering tools in use by the business units they work with. They will also undertake a technical role alongside the business units they support and be the IT ‘Tool Stewards’ of the Engineering Toolset for these business units. They and their team will be the subject matter experts on the end to end use of the tools used by the business unit to deliver their projects They also part of a Global team leading the adoption and sustainment of Jacobs standards, tools and processes across all projects, actively supporting the LoB tools initiatives.

We are currently looking for an experienced IT-PTS Technical Manager to join our growing team in either London, Winnersh (Reading) or Manchester.

You will:

  • Reports directly to the IT-PTS Manager

  • Lead the relevant NoE(s) on a Global scale.

  • Act as the IT Business partner as a member of the Technology Steering Groups within the Business.

  • Directly Manage both Senior Technical Specialist and Technical Specialists.

  • Directly or indirectly manage Operations Technicians on projects as required.

Primary Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities associated with this post will include (but may not be limited to) the following:

  • Provides demonstrable leadership in safety and BeyondZero principles

  • Leading the engineering tool aspect of the global engineering tools standards and work processes.

  • Being the Global technical leader for a technology or suite of technologies including a depth of knowledge of the future direction of the technology and the Industry.

  • Support technical career planning and guidance to others PTS staff.

  • Capable of providing cover for IT-PTS Manager as required.

  • Planning IT-PTS man hour estimates and managing allocated hours accordingly.

  • Excellent project Management capabilities covering scoping, planning and delivery of IT and Client Projects.

  • Support the IT-PTS Manager in maintaining billability in the team.

  • Promote Global LoB Engineering Tool standards and work processes.

  • Deliver specialist user training and support to both IT-PTS and operations staff.

  • Lead application customisation and innovation for automating design processes.

  • Promote Technology and Collaboration solutions (new and existing) to Operations.

  • Advise, consult and provide the most suitable technology solutions to Operations.

  • Manage the provision of technology support to Operations.

  • Represent IT-PTS as a chair on the appropriate Network of Excellence



  • Minimum of a degree or diploma in engineering or computer science

  • A certification in a relevant Engineering Tool or accreditation in industry standards an advantage

  • Extensive experience working on projects within one or more AEC disciplines

  • Extensive experience in the use and configuration of engineering applications (2D/3D CAD, CAE, Collaboration & Data and information Management).

  • Strong team working, leadership and motivational capabilities.

  • Excellent understanding of engineering work processes.

  • Self-motivated and results focussed with the ability to work with minimal, remote supervision.

  • Good written and oral communication, particularly English to facilitate working with a team located all over the globe

  • A fast learner with a strong attention to detail

  • A problem solving, conceptual thinker and able to work with complex system

  • Ability to communicate, train, effect change and implement improvements.

  • Strong team working, leadership and motivational capabilities.

  • Possess the soft skills required for interaction with the business leadership, clients and PTS team members
